it got so crowded on the road i started driving in the sand
my head was feeling scared but my heart was feeling free
the desert turned to mud it seems that everybody heard
everybody was remembering to forget they had the chills
then i heard the voices on a broadcast from up on the bird
they were getting interviewed by some Goodman whose name was Bill
i’m almost there to Vegas where they’re puttin’ on a show
they’ve come so far i’ve lived this long at least i must just go and say hello

This isn’t a poem.

I stay awake all night. It’s like a compulsion. The film I’m watching (Crash) is paused, like the film before it (Tsotsi) I keep pausing. I check my emails or look up poetry on the net. Or read. Or make tea. I’ve smoked so much I feel sick when I breathe deeply. I need to go to sleep but it’s like wringing the last desperate strips of nighttime out before giving up and going to bed. As if the daytime wasn’t enough.

It’s been all misty and cold for days. The train station looks like a hammer horror set. Smoked too many cigarettes again.

Worrying over what to do, when to go home.

Socialising just doesn’t seem to be happening lately.

I think I should go to the shops and buy a new book. I think that would be good.

And I need my laptop back! Otherwise I don’t write!

Missed the end of the christmas special Shameless because it was haff six in the morning and I needed sleep. Waited for dad to wander off at two in the morning, so I could get started on the birthday cake!

Took a lot longer than Jane Asher’s recipe said it would (twenty minutes my arse). Used an entire pat of butter. Ha!

Watching Red Dwarf and thinking. Need to write more. Watch less TV. But I am trapped into Shameless now. Damn.

Finally fixed the cooker (woo!).

Can no longer smoke the wacky fags. Paranoia. Damn.

Discovered a rather lovely dressing gown upstairs, the other day. Have a feeling I should make plans to leave the house – otherwise I will never take off said dressing gown.

Been playing scrabble with Hattie on Facebook, which is pretty fab. I think perhaps I should go shopping – buy books. Dad’s birthday is coming up.

Recently discovered that my TV will play music videos on demand. Have watched that new Kanye West/Daft Punk track many times. It’s too good.

Right. That’s enough for today.

Mike said I could exhibit my ashtray and coffee table as art. They are overflowing with ash and tiny rollies and general rubbish. In fact, my coffee table is quite sculpturally arranged, like a haute couture hat. The ashtray is like a small scale maquette of a factory all covered with skinny chimneys. Hmm. Food for thot.

Watching TV. Soon to be watching Richard Pryor on the Sunset Strip. The show, I’m not going to the Sunset Strip. Don’t be silly.

I even have chocolates to eat and impressive smoothie to drink.

Ellie came round and showed me her portfolio for fashion. She’s jolly good, you know. I’d put up a link if she had a site.

Hah! If anyone watches the shitty DubPlate Dramas, on late night BBC or channel 4 or something, my friend did the make up on that show. Heehee.

Makes me laugh.

Must go back to Scotland soon. Must also sort out motherfucking BT. Grr.

Bloody

Ho ho ho! Saw the odd old Sweeney Todd today.Eve drove me to the movies where we met some work friends and piled in. Unfortunately, this meant I wasn’t concentrating as fully as I might have been. Laughed a lot. However, this is probably a good thing – it is actually an upsetting film in many ways. A sad story – ultimately a tragedy.

Many scenes or little quips are gorgeously, morbidly funny. As are the sudden outbreaks of song, which feel unexpected until you’ve sat through a good portion of the film. Spent drive home taking it in turns to hammily intone “I will have veeeeeeeeeeeennnnnnngeance!” In the manner of Johnny Depp. It is a fabulously hammy film, really. Much like Oliver, I guess.

A word of warning, in case you did not realise already, it is an immensely bloody film. Not necessarily gory, but there are many vividly (inhumanly) red, flowing, sliced-open throats. Many. Tonnes.

Nowhere near as stylish as Tim Burton’s earlier, grubbier movies – like Beetlejuice, Batman, Edward Scissorhands, etc. Although it is still attractively shot and punchily well paced. The songs aren’t exclusively silly.

To conclude; embrace the silliness, laugh like a peasant being shown a juggling trick – you will need to if you want to survive the depressing dramatic irony.
